Launch to Assist 30-foot Motor Boat with Fouled Propeller

Selsey RNLI Inshore Lifeboat 'Betty and Thomas Moore' was launched at 15:21 to go to the assistance of the 30-foot motor boat 'Jester' with two male persons on board, disabled after fouling its propeller on fishing gear approximately 2 miles southwest of the Selsey Bill.

The ILB arrived on scene at 15:29. With the aid of a long-handled cutting tool the offending fishing gear was cut away by the crew by 15:40. The lifeboat crew stayed with the casualty until 15:51 to carry out checks to ensure that there was no water ingress and that 'Jester' was able to carry on its passage unaided.

On leaving the casualty the ILB was asked by Solent Coastguard to carry out a quick search of the immediate area after a passing yacht had reported a semi-submerged steel container. At 16:09, with nothing found, the ILB was released to return to station, arriving back at 16:23, recovering straight away and was ready for service by 17:00.
