Selsey Lifeboat Station - Launches

21st July 2013

Both Lifeboats Launched to Assist Drifting Yacht

The reserve All Weather Lifeboat 'Hilda Jarrett' launched at 00:28 to investigate reports of a small yacht drifting close inshore off of Pagham beach. The AWL arrived on scene at 00:59 to find the 32-foot yacht 'Menhor Menhor' aground at the entrance to Pagham Harbour.

Unable to get close to the casualty due to the shallow water, Selsey Inshore Lifeboat 'Betty and Thomas Moore' was requested to launch and attend. The ILB was on scene by 01:00. The crew got as close to the casualty as possible which was now almost high and dry. They walked around the vessel and reported no obvious damage.

On speaking with the lone Skipper owner it transpired that he had anchored off of Bognor and gone to bed unaware that his anchor wasn’t holding. He was quite happy with his situation and assured the ILB crew that he was confident in re-floating on the next tide.

With no other assistance able to be given both Lifeboats were released at 01:28 to return to station, arriving back at 01:50, and made ready for service at 02:45.
