The reserve All Weather Lifeboat 'Hilda Jarrett' launched at 11:30 to assist the 28-foot motor boat 'Sapphire Breeze' which was disabled due to a fouled propeller in a position approximately half a mile southwest of West Street, Selsey.

The casualty had a family of six aboard and the four young children were suffering from sea sickness and were very frightened. 'Hilda Jarrett' arrived on scene at 11:55 and managed to put 2nd Coxswain Willy Pledger aboard to assist in attaching the towline. This was a tricky operation in the sea conditions, coupled with the casualty being unable to maintain headway or steerage.
