Uk Coastguard (Solent) requested the all-weather Lifeboat (ALB) to be launched to go to the aid of the 10-metre angling boat 'Happy Times' with two persons aboard which was penned down by fishing gear.

The ALB 'Voluntary Worker', with a crew of seven volunteers, left the moorings at 5.42 p.m. on Thursday 20th April and made best speed towards the 'Happy Times' position three miles south west of Selsey Bill. The Lifeboat arrived on scene at 5.53 p.m. and the 2nd Coxswain was transferred to the vessel with the grapnel and long handled cutter. At 6.04 p.m. 'Happy Times' was freed from the fishing gear but still had some rope around one propeller.

The skipper of 'Happy Times' was happy to continue his passage to Langstone Harbour with one engine and so the Lifeboat was released by the UK Coastguards at 6.15 p.m. to return to Selsey. The moorings were reached at 6.35 p.m. The weather on scene was wind south west force 3 sea state slight in sunshine with good visibility.

CREW: Martin Rudwick (Coxswain), Willy Pledger (2nd Coxswain), Phil Pitham (Mechanic), James Albery, Steve Somner, Kristina Dolan and Harry Emmence.
