Selsey Lifeboat Searches for Possible Missing Kayakers

The volunteer RNLI Lifeboat crew were paged at 9.53 a.m. by UK Coastguards (Dover) who had received # reports of two kayaks washed up on the beach at Aldwick near Bognor Regis. The first informant reported seeing the kayaks earlier with two occupants.

The D-class inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was launched at 10.04 a.m. with a crew of three and made best speed to the Aldwick area, arriving on scene at 10.18 a.m. The crew were asked to search for possible persons in the water. Selsey Coastguard team were also tasked and checked the kayaks before conducting a beach search. The weather on scene was wind easterly force 2-3, sea state smooth with excellent visibility.

After an extensive search, at 12.20 p.m. the Coastguard released the ILB from the incident and at 12.28 p.m. they returned to station with the incident put down as a false alarm with good intent. The ILB was rehoused, refuelled and washed down by 1.00 p.m.
