The inshore Lifeboat (ILB) launched at 8.47 p.m. and made best speed to the area. When on scene a shore line search of the immediate area was conducted with nothing seen. At 9.12 p.m. the ILB Helmsman requested the all-weather Lifeboat to assist with the search. The weather on scene was wind westerly force 2-3 sea state smooth with good visibility.

At 9.24 p.m. the all-weather Lifeboat (ALB) launched and headed to Bognor. The ILB had been joined by the Police helicopter. Shortly after the ALB arrived on scene the helicopter was tasked to another incident and both Lifeboats and Coastguard units continued searching until the UK Coastguards stood all units down at 10.30 p.m.

Both Lifeboats returned to station at 11.00 p.m. with the ILB being recovered straight away and the ALB was recovered at 00.45 a.m. after waiting for the tide to fall. Both boats were washed down and made ready for service.
