The Shannon class Lifeboat 13-04 launched at 8.55 a.m. to go to the assistance of the motor cruiser 'Moondance'.

UK Coastguard (Solent) had received an emergency call from the 40-foot motor cruiser 'Moondance' reporting that they had steering failure. The two people on the vessel had been on passage to Burnham-on-Crouch Essex and were in a position 7 miles south east of Selsey Bill.

The weather on scene was wind south west force 6-7 sea state moderate in overcast skies. The Lifeboat arrived on scene at 9.28 a.m. and after checking the welfare of the two persons on board a towline was established between the Lifeboat and 'Moondance'.

The vessel was towed to Chichester Harbour and after entering the harbour the Lifeboat rendezvoused with the Harbour Master's patrol boat who took over the towing to a suitable mooring. The Lifeboat departed the harbour at 12.29 p.m. and arrived back at station at 12.59 p.m. The Lifeboat was rehoused, washed down and made ready for service.
