UK Coastguard requested the launch of the inshore lifeboat (ILB) after the Selsey Coastguard unit reported a jet skier was struggling to stay on his machine and getting tied.

The 'D' class Lifeboat, 'Betty and Thomas Moore', launched at 12.44 p.m. and made best speed to the East Beach launching ramp where the casualty was situated. The weather on scene was wind south west force 5-6 with a moderate sea state.

The ILB, with three volunteer crewmen on board, arrived on scene at 12.48 p.m. to find the person had made it safely ashore but with another four jet skis in the area the Selsey Coastguard unit asked the ILB to stay on scene until they had all landed safely on the beach.

At 1.40 p.m. the ILB was released and returned to station and was rehoused straight away.
