Selsey Inshore Lifeboat Launches to Help Kayakers

UK Coastguard received a call from two kayakers who said they were struggling in strong tides off Selsey Bill and the water was flooding the kayaks.

The 'D' class inshore Lifeboat (ILB) launched at 12.30 p.m. on Thursday 26th July. Best speed was made to the area west of Selsey Bill and the kayaks were found 200 metres offshore from the Coastguard station. The kayakers told the ILB crew that they had called the Coastguards after being overwhelmed by the conditions on the Bill point where the sea can be very turbulent at times. The two persons on the kayaks said they were OK and so the ILB escorted them back to the beach where the Selsey Coastguard team were waiting. The ILB was released by the UK Coastguard at 12.45 p.m. and returned to station.

CREW: Dave Lamdin (Helmsman) and James Albrey.
