Selsey RNLI All-Weather Lifeboat Recovers Liferaft

Liferaft

At 11.40 a.m. on Thursday 15th November the Selsey all-weather Lifeboat (ALB) launched and headed to a position 10 miles south west of Selsey.

The UK Coastguards requested that the Lifeboat launch after receiving a radio call from a fishing boat saying that they had found a large empty liferaft. The ALB arrived on scene at 12.04 p.m. and the fishing boat released the liferaft and left the scene. No identification markings could be found on first visual check so the liferaft, which had about 200mm of water in it, had to be hauled onto the ALB.

ID numbers were found on the bottom of the 10-man liferaft and passed via radio to the Coastguards. At 12.30 p.m. the Lifeboat started an expanding box search as requested by the Coastguards. The search was terminated at 2.40 p.m. and the ALB departed the area and returned to Station at 3.04 p.m. The weather on scene was wind south east force 3-4, sea state slight in mainly sunshine.

CREW: Martin Rudwick (Coxswain), Dave Lamdin (2nd Coxswain), Phil Pitham (Mechanic), Max Gilligan, Pip Skeet and Kristina Dolan.
