Selsey All-Weather Lifeboat Launched After Clothes Found on Bognor Beach

The all-weather Lifeboat (ALB) launched at 6.35 p.m. on Friday 1st January after UK Coastguards received information from Sussex Police concerning clothes and a mobile phone that were found on the beach at Bognor Regis.

'Denise and Eric', the Selsey ALB, was initially instructed to start a search 3 miles south of Bognor Pier but this was updated whist on route by the UK Coastguards and the Selsey ALB was tasked to conduct a parallel line ahead search with a start position 1 mile south of Bognor Pier. The Littlehampton inshore Lifeboat (ILB) was also tasked to conduct a similar search closer inshore. Both Selsey and Littlehampton Coastguard rescue teams were searching the shoreline. The weather on scene was wind northerly force 2, sea state smooth in clear sky.

After a comprehensive search of the beach the Coastguard teams were stood down and at 9.10 p.m., after completing their search area, the Selsey ALB was stood down and the Littlehampton ILB was stood down at 9.40 p.m. after completing their search area.

'Denise and Eric' arrived back at station at 9.35 p.m. and was recovered straight away.
