Selsey RNLI Inshore Lifeboat Launched After Kayak Capsizes

The alarm was raised by a member of the public knocking the door of the Lifeboat Station and reporting to the Coxswain that two persons were in the water after their sit-on Kayak had capsized. He said that they appeared to be struggling to get back on to the kayak.

The Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM), who was also at the station, informed the UK Coastguard who paged the crew straight away. At 8.40 a.m. on Tuesday 19th January the inshore Lifeboat(ILB) launched and made best speed to the kayak but soon after launching it was reported that the two persons had swam to the beach and were OK. The ILB continued on to recover the kayak and paddle. The weather on scene was wind westerly force 6, sea state smooth in overcast sky.

The ILB returned to station at 8.55 a.m. and was recovered, washed down, and made ready for the next call.

CREW: Colin Pullenger (Helmsman), Kristina Dolan and Neil Hopcraft.
