Selsey RNLI Launched to Paddle Boarder Possibly in Difficulty

A Sussex police unit reported to the UK Coastguard that they could see a paddle boarder that appeared to be in in difficulty off of Bognor Pier

The Selsey D class inshore Lifeboat (ILB) launched at 8.26 p.m. on Monday 19th April with a crew of three volunteers and headed to Bognor. At 8.41 p.m. the ILB arrived on scene and reported that nothing could be seen. The police unit had departed the scene so couldn't verify the position they had seen the casualty. The weather on scene was no wind, sea state calm with good visibility.

Shortly after the ILB started searching the Coastguards reported that a paddle boarder had phoned the Lifeboat station saying he had been spear fishing in the area where the ILB was searching and that he was ashore and OK. The ILB was stood down at 8.45 p.m. and returned to station at 9.02 p.m.
