Selsey Inshore Lifeboat Joins Multi-Agency Search for Missing Person

The D class inshore Lifeboat was requested to launch by UK Coastguards to conduct a shoreline search on the west side of Selsey. The lead agency was Sussex Police, with two Coastguard teams from Selsey and Littlehampton.

The inshore (ILB) Lifeboat launched at 5.21 p.m. on Wednesday 2nd June and headed straight to Selsey Bill to begin the search. After reaching a position just west of the Medmerry Nature Reserve the Coastguards asked the ILB Helmsman to search inside the reserve if it was safe to do so and with high tide 30 minutes away the ILB entered the reserve and conducted a search. The Coastguard helicopter Rescue 175 had also been tasked to search the west side of Selsey.

The weather on scene was wind south-easterly force 2, sea state calm in sunshine with good search conditions. At 7.00 p.m. both the ILB and Rescue 175 were stood down having comprehensively searched the areas requested with nothing found. At 7.17 p.m. the ILB returned to station and was recovered straight away.

CREW: Sam Corcoran-Smith (Helmsman), Craig Sergeant and Jake Harnett.
