Mike Cole, June 1940 - June 2020

(Article written by Sam Corcoran-Smith, Helmsman, Selsey Lifeboat Station)

Rob Archibald Mike Cole, Selsey Lifeboat Station's Lifeboat Visits Officer since 2012, sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago shortly after his 80th birthday.

Yesterday, Tuesday 14th July, his family said goodbye to him at a private funeral in Pagham. Some of the Lifeboat station's operational volunteers went to Pagham and gave Mike's funeral cortege a guard of honour, along with members of the local Coastguard rescue teams and the wider Pagham community. Our condolences go to Lina and Mike's family.

Mike could be seen around the station a lot, often with a large group of visitors who were enthralled with his tales and humour. He was always so enthusiastic about the volunteers at Selsey and what the RNLI does as a charity. His warm, happy-go-lucky personality and his jokes will be remembered (although some were as awful as they were funny) and truly missed around the station.

We are thankful for the years that he dedicated to Selsey RNLI. His time and attention was welcomed and his commitment to what we do each and every day will be remembered always.

Calm seas and safe sailing, Mike.

From all at Selsey RNLI Lifeboat Station.
