(Due to a massive oversight back during Lifeboat Week, this story never appeared on Selsey Lifeboat website. Our sincere apologies to the Southern Model Lifeboat Society.)
The Southern Model Lifeboat Society has donated £3,960 towards Selsey RNLIís Shannon Lifeboat Appeal.
The money was raised by collecting five miles of one penny coins, along with money collected at the 20 events the society attends throughout the year.
Tony Olliff and other society members presented Selsey lifeboat Chairman, Colvin Rae, with a cheque on 3rd August 2014.
The money will go towards the Selsey Shannon class Lifeboat appeal. The new Shannon class Lifeboat is due to go on station at Selsey in late 2015 at a cost of £2 million, with the launch and recovery system costing a further £1.5 million.
The Southern Model Lifeboat Society has been in existence for 26 years and has 14 members. They attend Lifeboat open days, fetes exhibitions and model boat shows all over the south of England showing their wonderful model lifeboats. They have always been keen supporters of the RNLI.
