The Guild of Freemen of the City of London have been enthusiastic supporters of Selsey Lifeboat for around thirty years.
On Wednesday 10th June 2015 some 28 members of The Guild visited the station to meet the crews, see their equipment and hear the exciting plans for the new Shannon class all weather Lifeboat and the related shoreworks. The ladies of the Selsey Lifeboat Association provided tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival.
Twelve lucky members, including the Master of the Guild, enjoyed a launch and an exhilarating trip on 'Voluntary Worker'. The trip, although in brilliant sunshine, was a little damp as a fair breeze was whipping up spray from a relatively calm sea. The remaining visitors watched the launch from the boathouse and the beach.
On returning ashore the Guild entertained six crew members to lunch in the Lifeboat Inn where the Master, Lady Cooksey OBE, DL, thanked the crew and presented the Chairman with a cheque for the Selsey Shannon appeal.
After lunch the ILB volunteer crew demonstrated the capabilities of our D class Lifeboat 'Betty & Thomas Moore' before the Guild members visited the lifeboat shop for mementos to take home for family and friends.
