The Nathan Boxall Memorial Challenge Trophy was donated by Gary Boxall, Nathanís father, after Gary passed away in December 2011. The quiz competition, also known as the Battle of the Selsey Boozers, is held between licensed premises in Selsey and consists of teams of six people. Each premises can enter as many teams as they wish and those taking part this year were The Selsey Bill, The Selsey Club, The Seal, The Neptune, The Lifeboat Inn, The Fishermanís Joy, Selsey Off Licence, Selsey Royal British Legion, and Selsey Football Club. Held at Selsey Royal British Legion this year, as they won the competition last year, there were 14 teams entered, and all prize monies are donated to charitable causes, which totalled £663.
This year the competition was won by a team from The Seal Pub & Restaurant consisting of Gianni Mosca (captain), Gary Sharp, Chris Cole, Malcolm Skull, Chris Cole, and Rita Sharp, and they decided that they wanted their winnings to go towards the new Selsey Lifeboat.
I went along to the monthly quiz at The Seal to be presented with the money and to meet the team members.
In 2nd place was The Selsey Royal British Legion and they will use the £140 prize money for their annual childrenís Christmas party. Third place went to The Neptune whose £70 prize money was donated to the MacMillan Nurses. The proceeds of the raffle, £242, was donated to Selsey Community First Responders.
All in all, a very good event, and, we at Selsey Lifeboat, are delighted with the generous donation. Thank you, everyone!!
