RNLI Selsey lifeboat station appointed Ruth Troughton-Smith on 19th July 2012 as the new volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer (LPO).
Ruth grew up in Selsey and was involved with the RNLI Selsey lifeboat for a long time whilst she was growing up. Both her parents were involved. Her father Colin was volunteer shore crew when Bill Jones was Coxswain. Her mother Jennie was one of the instigators and a founding member of the Selsey Lifeboat Ladies with Jean Warwick and Janet Woodland. This group of ladies raised money for Selsey Lifeboat Station and raised the awareness of the Selsey Lifeboat Station in the village.
As a youngster Ruth was used as the casualty on many lifeboat days and was involved in the local Carnival days on the lifeboat floats. Also when the maroons were fired Ruth went with her father to call outs and made teas and coffees for the shore crew and the returning crew members and casualties.
Ruth has a son Sam who is a volunteer lifeboat crew member.
Colvin Rae, Chairman, RNLI Selsey Lifeboat Station Branch said "We are extremely fortunate to have Ruth as our new Lifeboat Press Officer in Selsey. Ruth and her family's long standing involvement, gives her a unique insight into the workings of RNLI Lifeboat Station and its volunteer crews. I look forward to having her as part of our Lifeboat Management Group"
