Boxing Day 2011 dawned a bit grey and overcast but it was dry and not too cold. Over 65 people and dogs met at Hillfield Road car park to take part in this year’s ‘Walk off the Turkey’ Walking Treasure Hunt.
Once more compiled by Steve and Linda Frampton of Mulberry Divers (sponsors of RNLI Selsey’s Web Site) it started at 11:00 a.m. and took about 1½ hours to complete, ending at The Seal Public House.
Walking around the park gathering answers to the clues the participants were then taken down Green Lane, along the public footpath to Ursula Avenue, across to Ursula Square and onto the sea wall. It was quite windy and it was just after high tide so the sea was breaking over the sea wall further west. Coming off the sea wall into Solent Way and along Byways the participants were then taken back into Ursula Square and back on to the sea wall turning left this time. The route then led up Hillfield Road and into the Seal Public House where Steve and Linda were waiting for the answers. Yet again the questions were a mixture of straightforward and devious causing back-tracking several times (especially by the most competitive of the participants…).
Thoroughly enjoyable once again, and with a well-earned pint at the end, what more could anyone want to help blow away the cobwebs on Boxing Day?
Many thanks to Steve and Linda for organising this event.
