Martin Rudwick, Coxswain, being presented with the cheque

On Wednesday 11th September, Martin Rudwick, Selsey Lifeboat's Coxswain, visited Selsey Royal British Legion on behalf of the RNLI to accept a cheque for £274.10.

The money was in respect of donations made by members of the Royal British Legion, especially the Wednesday Night Bingo Ladies, in memory of member and keen bingo player, Betty Crossley, who passed away earlier this year. Betty had made it known to her friends that if a collection was to be made or monies raised in her memory, that this should be donated to the Selsey RNLI.

In his acceptance address, Martin let it be known that, at that moment, both boats were out exercising with the helicopter. He touched on the current financial situation within the RNLI which was featured on national TV on Monday and has also recently been highlighted by the new Chief Executive, Mark Dowie, in the national press under the 'Perfect Storm' banner. He emphasised how important every donation was and that it could be used for fuel to keep us at sea.
