Chairman of Local Dive Club Swims for Selsey RNLI

Having been "volunteered" at short notice for the Christmas Morning Charity Swim in aid of the Selsey RNLI, Simon Barnard, Chairman of the local diving club, Selsey BSAC, was disappointed when strong winds and a 2m swell forced it to be postponed. Fellow members of the club and friends were similarly disappointed, having sponsored this rash endeavour.

So, when Boxing Day morning brought calmer weather and a flat sea, not wanting to delay the inevitable any longer than necessary, Simon took to the beach.

Encouraged by warming cheers ("Get in, you chicken!") from fellow club members, he took the plunge (albeit a brief immersion and a few short strokes) followed by a chilly scamper up the pebbly beach keen to avoid the onset of hypothermia.

80 was raised, going to the Station's fund towards its new Shannon Class Lifeboat.
